Transport ministry limits flights of Somon Air to Russia from Mon

MOSCOW, Apr 3 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Transport Ministry has introduced limits on flights of Tajikistan’s Somon Air to the country from Dushanbe and Khujand on Monday, a spokesperson for the ministry said on April 2.

Tajikistan’s air authorities have not confirmed an application by Russia’s Yamal Airlines to fly from the Zhukovsky airport in the Moscow Region to Tajikistan despite previous agreements, the person said.

“In this context, a notification of mirror-like retaliatory measures was sent to the Tajik side on March 31. Restrictions on flights are introduced for Somon Air from April 3: on flights to Russia from Dushanbe (four flights a week) and Khujand (three flights a week),” the person said.

The air travel dispute between Russia and Tajikistan started in December 22, 2016 when Dushanbe banned Yamal Airlines from flying to the country from the Zhukovsky airport. In response, Moscow banned flights of Somon Air to several Russian regions from December 23, 2016. In January 2017, the countries settled the dispute during a meeting of the intergovernmental commission.
